Last week I posted the trailer and information for RiP: A remix manifesto. Web activist and filmmaker Brett Gaylor explores issues of copyright in the information age, mashing up the media landscape of the 20th century and shattering the wall between users and producers. Today I finally had a chunk of time to sit down and watch the film. Streaming video of RiP! A Remix Manifesto is available via NFB.ca, a web site produced by the National Film Board of Canada.

Chapter 1 - Meet Girl Talk. Today we're going to make a mash-up, find out who Girl Talk is, and why his music holds the key to the future of culture.

YAY!
McCain did me a favor. He's speaking at my college tomorrow and my classes are cancelled. YAY! That's one good thing his campaign has done.

Two of the greatest things I’ve ever seen:
White House pranksters wrapped Rove's Jaguar in plastic wrap and Portrait of President Bush Created Out of Porn Magazines by Johnathan Yeo

This semester I’ve started my Ashland classes and I’m taking one LCCC class still. I have Foundations in Literacy, Teaching & Learning Process, Intro to World Religion, Workshop Teaching Intervention Specialist, Assistive Technology for IS, and Sensory Motor for IS. I have unbelievably long days on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30am to 7:45pm. Starting soon I’ll have another student teaching, which will eat my life. This semester I plan to not have any friends, never go out, barely have time to eat, and probably never sleep.

VID RECS:
[info]absolutedestiny’s Rodeohead (Firefly/Serenity) - It puts smile on my face just thinking about. It’ can slip of from farce to dramatic to comedic to vaguely creepy and then right back to farce.

[info]aycheb’s Quantum Theory (Children of Men) – A quiet, somber, and lulling feeling vid, yet harsh with great build.

[info]bradcpu’s Working Class Hero (Firefly/Serenity) – I completely fail to explain what it is about this vid that hits me except that it’s one of the truest messages of Firefly and Brad is able to get that across with subtle movements, music matching, clip connections, deep thinky thoughts, and THE SHINY.

[info]cherryice’s Only (Battlestar Galactica) – A complex web of The Four with deep thought and beautiful motion.

[info]dualbunny’s Cosmia (El Laberinto del fauno (Pan's Labyrinth)) – I’m in awe of the song use, the treatment of the material, the eccentric editing style, the odd jump cutting back and forth, the music matches, the movement and motion, the framing, and EVERYTHING.

[info]obessive24’s Jesus for the Jugular (Carnivàle) – The vidding equivalent of being fucked gently with a chainsaw.

[info]sdwolfpup’s The Loyal (Children of Men) – An amazing vid that stuck with me.

[info]sisabet’s Falling for the First Time (Supernatural) - It's sweet and endearing, yet vaguely... dare I say heartwarming...

Mmmm, nip/tuck layout at journal. Why did I not put up a journal layout before?

My birthday blew, but what was I expecting?

I had a new little post all written up about college and family and fandom, but I am soooooo dumb. I had my foot on the unit of the computer and I flipped the switch at the back of the computer off. I feel so stupid, I mean, come on, who does that?

I started watching "Prison Break". I like enough to keep watching it, but I can't help but draw comparisons to "Oz" simply because it's in a prison. It just won't be believable to me until someone is made someone else's bitch. The pulled out pocket thing was creepy and funny though. Sarah Beth might as well pull out her jean pocket and make me hold on to it cuz I am her bitch.

I skipped church on Sunday to watch "Meet the Press" because my VCR stopped working. That's bad right?
