I read on TMZ that Jeffrey Donovan (Michael Weston on Burn Notice) was arrested on suspicion of DUI on Sunday and my first thought was, "he didn't twitter that."

My neighbor's dog got out through a giant hole in their fence and the mail lady brought him to me, so I have a furry little ball of "OMGZIWANTATTENTION" licking at my fingers while I try to type. He's cute, but I don't like small dogs.

I've been cooking and baking a lot lately. I mean more than never when I say a lot. I made bacon and cheese stuffed beer burgers this weekend, which turned out well. I made ice cream cone cupcakes to take to a party too and they turned out freaking awesome.

I've also been making my own cold-brewed coffee, which is so good that I think I might like it more than Starbucks. I know, I know, blasphemy, but it's true.

I've been using twitter instead of LJ for little things I find interesting. I used to make posts about little things, but now they're all on my twitter and never make it to LJ. This is probably a good thing because it spares everyone my squeeing over Eliza Dushku, Zachary Quinto, and Olivia Wilde; linking to pretty photographs; laughing about how I set off the smoke alarm baking; and mourning having deleted the Torchwood Children of Earth miniseries only to get a vid idea 3 days later. Link to my twitter.

VID RECS:
[info]newkidfan's Blood Makes Noise (Lost) - A gorgeous layering and coloring that is lush and full with jumpcut editing and wavering images. The interesting framing choices feel like the zeroing in on a microscope that amps up the intensity and tension along with the effects. It doesn't hurt that I gave her the musical prompt because I've wanted to see this song vidded well to Lost for as long as the show has been on the air.

[info]danegen's Down by the Water (Southland) - I've never watched Southland, but that didn't matter because I was able to plug into the more emotional aspect of the vid. I know I'm missing the depth and understanding that would come with knowing the source, but the vid is still terrific in the use of imagery. It feels like a great study of objects and how people can become objects in that sense. I think my favorite aspect is how a woman's dead body is transformed into a landscape.

WashingTones' Dr. House is a wicked cool music video that uses footage of the band performing and source footage from the show, House, too. The end result is an engaging music video that has me bopping around and singing the chorus in the shower.

music: String Quartet Tribute to Nine Inch Nails
source: 9 Songs, Lie With Me, and Shortbus
duration: 3:35
warning: This vid contains full name and female nudity, as well as sexually explicit scenes. You must be over 16 or over the age of consent for your country, whichever is greater, to view this vid.
summary: A meta!porn vid using movies with various levels of real sex. I wanted to explore the point when voyerism becomes participation, the nature of vidding, the blurry line between art and pornography, and sex itself.
notes: I promised [info]kuwdora I would post our chat to go along with the vid, so those are here: behind this cut )It's entirely odd to see her username with a strike through it. Strikethroughs make the baby Jesus sad... And onto the meta porn.

For my birthday I got an extremely cool iflip video camera that I've been playing around with for a couple months. I'm going through I really weird phase where I've come to the realization that I'm a 22-year-old and I'm going to die, so I want to create proof that I existed. It sounds more morbid than it actually is. I've started taking the video camera around with me sometimes because it's so small and easy to use. I'm not in these home videos beyond my annoying voice and my skulls bracelet. I've made a few and I thought it would be fun to upload some.

Summer is the time for memes, so bring them on.

Zombie MEME:
You are in a mall when the zombies attack. You have:
1. one weapon.
2. one song blasting on the speakers.
3. one famous person to fight alongside you.

* Weapon can be real or fictional; you may assume endless ammo if applicable. Person can be real or fictional.

MY ANSWERS:
1. The Gay Bomb
2. Róisín Murphy's Ramalama (Bang Bang)
3. John Barrowman because he's the first person that came to mind when I thought about gay dancing zombies and you know he'd love it...

Music MEME
Name me a character or fandom in the comments and I'll give you a song in return. If I'm not familiar with your choice I'll either choose a song based on what I know from the flist, or hit random on my iTunes Winamp (SEE, I LIKE THE CLASSICS!) and wait for hilarity to ensue.

My April Fool's joke didn't go the way I thought it would. I texted a few people and told them I was engaged in a pic message of my friend's wedding ring. 2 people called April Fool's bullshit, 2 thought I was telling the truth and wanted to know who, 3 were disbelieving. For the latter 5, I said I was enaged to a girl named Kayla. Of those 5, 1 said she wouldn't come to the wedding and 4 said some variation of "yeah, I thought you were." *insert my cackling laughter*

As tagged by Nicky:
List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they're listening to.

1. Alessandro Nivola - Someday I Will Treat You Good - Someone made me a mix tape (on a real cassette!) with this song included last month. I really don't want to know what he's trying to say, but I love the song because it's Alessandro Nivola.

2. Bon Iver (Justin Vernon) - Skinny Love - The lonely isolated confession feel is what gets me.

3. Dj Earworm's Scissor Sisters vs Beatles, George Michael, and Aretha Franklin - No One Takes Your Freedom - It makes me smile and want to dance around in an oversized pink dress shirt.

4. Edith Paif - La Foule - I have no idea what she's saying, but it doesn't matter because it's beautiful.

5. The Magnetic Fields - Abigail, Belle Of Kilronan - I love the swooshing effect it makes when listened to over earbuds. The Magnetic Fields make some of my favorite music.

6. Rachel's - Arterial - As I've said, I'm a sucker for good piano and creation of atmosphere.

7. Sneaker Pimps - After Every Party I Die - This is exactly what my soul feels like after a bad night out.

My Thursday night classes are cancelled for the rest of the semester and the final is over e-mail because the professor's father is dying. My Teaching and Learning Process class already had the final, so we just have class. My Literacy class finished early too. For those finals I have a 103% and a 92%, respectively. On the tenth I find out my grades for my student teaching because I did the final early because my cooperating teacher is having surgery. I'm not worried about that grade because I rocked it. Out of a 200 point scale I was marked off one for not wearing dress shoes. My CT said to wear tennis shoes in case I needed to run after a child. Even after I explained the situation she still marked me off. I think my professor was offended by my chucks. In the grand scheme of things, it's only a half of a percent and I know it isn't an issue.

Michael Showalter toured blogs and stopped at stereogum to talk about music

I has thinky thoughts on Adrian Pasdar in relation to vidding. Let me show you them. )

VID RECS:
Abbey's Half-Boyfriend (House) - I love everything from start to finish, from the sheer musicality of the editing to the pacing.

[info]buffyann's When the Sun Goes Down (Queer as Folk) - Sparkly, flashy, colorful, motion-filled, flow-y goodness.

[info]dualbunny's Cuz I Can (Battlestar Galactica) - I can't believe I've never has this in my recs. Prepare for your mind to be blown.

[info]pinkfinity's Faith (Heroes) - A season two Peter/Nathan vid that it too adorably cute for it's own good.

[info]lcsbanana's La Resistance (Heroes) - Too perfect lyric matches that make my face hurt from smiling.

[info]meivocis's The Noose (Heroes) - There's something about this vid that grabs me. It may be the odd editing or the off kilter nature of the vid that makes it meaningful and interesting.

[info]ryty's melancholia (Multi) - This was done as a film studies thingy for his class "Age of Melancholy" and it made me flipping depressed for the entire vid and for about twenty minutes afterward.

I still haven't adjusted to my new schedule. There's a rather large chunk of my time between my morning classes and my afternoon/evening classes where I do my papers and assignments, but after that's done I'm left with a considerable amount of time where I can't do much of anything that I would like to do (as in vidding, doing fanart, or anything that requires a computer). The campus library is ok for checking e-mail and flist skimming, but I could never use one of the college's laptops to write p0rny fanfic or stream a vid. So lately I've been taking my sketchbook and going nuts on it. I've also been taking more photos and videos than usual. I think the phototaking is a reaction to the fact that I've been alive for 21 years and I feel like I need proof.

Also, I've noticed that my journal has become more and more about vidding over the last year or so. I've never been one for a personal day to day journal. My life is pretty boring, but if there's something I feel like writing about in my personal life, I'll do it. I think with vidding, more so than writing or fanart or music, I found an outlet that I felt comfortable with. It's almost like vidding is a pulling together of all my interests. I was never that good at writing, doing fanart, producing music, or interacting people online, but vidding feels like bringing all those things I was medicore at together to be something that I consider myself to be fairly good at.

VID RECS:
[info]anoel's The Trouble with Poets (Highlander) - Even with only a hazy childhood knowledge of Highlander, I can't get enough of this vid. It has sound matching, beautiful editing, progression, and parallelling.
[info]anoel's Volcano (Queer as Folk US) - The movement is amazing and everything flows like it's liquid.

[info]greensilver's Ghost Song (Supernatural) - One of my favorite vids because of the quirky and off-kilter editing, structure, look, feel, atmosphere, editing, and basically everything.
[info]greensilver's Ooh La La (The Dead Zone) - Great matching to music and use of source that can't help but make you want to dance.

[info]obsessive24's The Other Side (House) - Religion makes me uncomfortable (just ask my Introduction to World Religion class), but this Chase vid is handled with a reverent and caring feel.

[info]sweetestdrain's West of Her Spine (Dexter) - There's so many beautiful naunces and doubles meanings with wicked skill.

I watched Wonderland again because I felt like it and I came to the realization that it’s responsible for Paris Hilton starting to carry around a little Chihuahua. Paris Hilton did a little cameo in the movie and Kate Bosworth goes around with a Chihuahua for most of the movie. The movie came out in 2003, so it would have been filmed before then and I think Paris started carrying Tinkerbell around 2003. So thanks very freaking much for that Wonderland.

On to actual important things, Tegan and Sara have their new album on their myspace for your listening pleasure.
