vid - Memories Are Made of This - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

vid title: Memories Are Made of This
music: cover from Johnny Cash
fandom: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
duration 2:22
summary: A relationship exploration of Joel and Clem.

download: divx, 21mb, stream/download from vimeo, and stream from imeem.

Take one fresh and tender kiss
Add one stolen night of bliss
One girl, one boy, some grief, some joy
Memories are made of this.

Don't forget a small moonbeam
Fold it lightly with a dream
Your lips and mine to sip the wine
Memories are made of this

Then at the wedding bells
One house where lovers dwell
Three little kids for the flavor
Stir carefully through the day
See how the flavor stays
These are the dreams that we must savor

With His blessings from above
Serve it generously with love
One man, one wife, one love for life
Memories are made of this

Aw, I love this! Very well done! I love all the jump cuts they work very well with the song. Awesome, awesome. Downloading and keeping! :D

Once I started it, everything flowed so fast and without a hitch. Vidding has never been as natural as it was with this one. I finished it in less than a day.

Thanks.

What I really like about the jump cutting is that is gives me the impression of seeing a bunch of snapshots, and that plays very well into the notion of what comprises memories (and I totally love the shot of the elephants around 0:23 for the same reason). This felt innocent and tender and I enjoyed it very much.

I hadn't intended to use jumpcuts, but I did the first one and loved the feel it gave, so I kept using them. To me, it felt like the way I remember things sometimes. How I remember certain parts, which are strung together to make the memory. Like the bonfire I was at last week. I remember about 7 things that happened as opposed to the entire night.

I loved the elephants in the movie. It's the elephants being moved at night for a parade or something the next day.

I loved making this vid.

This is fantastic. The jump cuts really help give it that disjointed feeling that nicely parallels the underlying theme of the movie, yet it all feels connected and flows just like the scattered pieces of their memories. Just when I thought I'd seen all the vids I ever needed to see from this film, you up and proved me wrong.

Thank you.

As I said above too, I hadn't intended to use jumpcuts, but I did the first one and loved the feel it gave, so I kept using them. To me, it felt like the way I remember things sometimes. I adore the movie, so I'm glad you liked the vid. :)

I agree with [info]jarrow about the jump cuts. It's amazing how you've used those to create not just a *look* for the vid, but a feel. It almost makes it feel like different source - and yet what it expresses about the movie is faithful... maybe even *more* effective at expressing it than the movie itself.

I also love how it adds to the feeling that you're kind of watching home movies in someone's mind. It feels disjointed, yet so incredibly intimate.

Amazing work, as always.

Aww, thank you.

When I first got the technological ability I took the movie Momento apart and put it back together in chronological order, so I could watch it that way. It was interesting and it brought something completely different to the source that it doesn't have when it's disconnected and non-linear. I'd thought about putting all the non-linear movies I loved in order to see what I could discover, but I never did. I'd thought of doing a vid for ESotSM that showed the relationship in it's linear form, but didn't have the complusion to do it until now.

:)

Aw, hey. *sniffle* That was a fearless song choice and masterful editing. Loved the jump cuts (especially the head turns) on the little strumstrums.

Loved how the song is so straightforward and the movie so complicated and snarled (and your editing is likewise complex and layered), and how it seems you're really saying that love is never straightforward, regardless of its appearance.

Thank you. :) The music choice actually comes from my family background. As much as I try to deny it, I enjoy some bluegrass once in a while.

I wanted to edit it linearly to see how it changed the way I felt about the storyline. I'm very happy some of my thought process came through. :)

aw, wow.

this is absolutely stunning... & i really love the (relatively) happy ending - it made me all warm inside ;) and the jump cuts are, of course, a thing of absolute beauty. i just love jump cuts so much - it's something so (relatively) simple, but so powerful.

Thanks. It's as happy as it could be. Although, personally, I think they went on to have each other erased again and again, then got back together again and again.
